BCSCA President’s Report
Oct 23, 2024
Rod Barratt
All,
Wonderful to hear all the stories of coaches and clubs off to a great start. I am sure you have experienced some frustrations with the new REMS system. It will all eventually be in the rear view mirror. Keep on doing what we do best, and what we expect of the swimmers; Keep an eye on the prize and keep calm, swim on.
I am ever thankful to the efforts everyone on the board of directors make to keep up to date and bring reports to the meetings in spite of all they also have on their plates. BCSCA is a strong, proud, personal, professional group who work together and keep the improvement of coaches education and sharing front of mind.
We put out the call for grant applications at the beginning of the month and I believe three or four of six are spoken for. Great to see coaches seeking knowledge and sharing opportunities. Reminder to all that a grant proposal does not have to be a ‘grand idea’, it has to be worthwhile to you and ideally something that will benefit all.
Through your registration you receive the opportunity to communicate with a sport lawyer at Jones Emery for free (one hour covered jointly by BCSCA and Jones Emery) and a reasonable rate for further work through them if needed.
We will again be offering some professional development talks on line. We are aiming to have three development talks aimed at 12 and U coaches, as well as three to four aimed at head/head assistant coaches. We are in communication with CSCA about cohosting a talk this year as well.
If you have any questions or need support, I encourage you to not feel alone or that you ‘should’ have all the answers. Your hive mind of professionals around you is a great resource and BCSCA can be trusted to keep inquires in confidence.
In swimming faster, and coaching with confidence and care,
Rod
